The combat system, which also provides for the selection of three interchangeable fighting styles, also works quite well. This gives a decidedly more tactical connotation to the clashes, which are based almost entirely on the management of attack and dodge timing. Once completed it is possible to try your hand at the New Game + mode, which raises the bar of difficulty even more for the most fearless and masochists. Eldest Souls is an extremely straightforward game, perhaps even too much. Such extra missions are not mandatory, but their resolution will affect the ending. Of course, there are mini side quests, but they are extremely simple and in the vast majority of cases involve the collection of an object to offer or show to one of the NPCs on the map in exchange for some welcome enhancement and little else. ![]() ![]() It’s part of his boss rush nature of course, but Eldest Souls creaks due to its lack of playful alternatives capable of pulling the breath between one downed giant deity and the next. Not that there is no content, it is clear: we are still talking about a title that offers a minimum duration of about ten hours (but which I assure you will be many more, given the difficulty of the meetings), yet the continuous clash only and only with bosses gigantic gives a feeling of lack of progression which in the long run can tire a lot. There are no mobs of any kind scattered around the map to take down to improve your stats, which makes the experience certainly more immediate but somehow also poorer and more repetitive. The setting is extremely restricted compared to the large interconnected maps typical of the reference works and, in the same way, the whole gameplay is based on fighting against huge and merciless bosses. A merciless rush bossĮldest Souls is a sublimation of the most famous soulslike of the contemporary videogame scene. A bit like it happens all the time on the main mobile stores, which are teeming with generic pharmacy titles of successful titles. The risk is that the public perceives it a priori as a derivative facsimile and of poor quality. Being a soulslike blatantly inspired by the success of the works of Hidetaka Miyazaki and From Software it appears the choice of name is almost too brazen, which simultaneously recalls Dark Souls and the upcoming Elden Ring (here is our most recent preview of Elden Ring).
